I want to read more and a wider variety of translated literature and so I started the Translated Literature Reading Challenge!
Whether anyone joins or not, I will try and read at least one translated book a month based on the following prompts:
April
Let’s celebrate excellent translations with a translated book that won or was nominated for an award!
May
Get lost in the magic of a translated fantasy or sci-fi novel from another culture!
June
Let’s prepare for summer with a translated novel from a country you’ve been to or want to visit.
July
Find something new with a book translated by a translator you’ve never read before!
August
It’s women in translation month! Choose a translated book written by a female author. (Check out #WomenInTranslation on social media!)
September
Let’s learn something new with some translated non-fiction.
October
It’s Spook-tober! A great time to try a translated horror, thriller, or mystery novel!
November
Explore a new culture by reading a book or novel translated from a language you’ve never studied and know nothing about.
December
The end of the year is a great time to try a newly published translated book from 2022!
Don’t forget!
- Share your books and progress with the hashtag #TranslatedLitChallenge
- Mention the country of origin, author, and translator! (Bonus points for naming the editor too!)
If you’re stuck for ideas then I recommend Books and Bao, Literary Hub, and Words Without Borders.
